چکیده

The home range dynamics of eleven roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) females were studied from 1995 to 1999 in the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, northern Apennines, Tuscany, Italy. The study area is mountainous with almost complete forest cover (95%) and snow usually falls from late October to April. Data were collected with radio-tracking techniques: the annual and bimonthly home range, the overlap percentages of the Kernel home range of consecutive periods and of the same period in different years, and the linear distance between centres of home ranges were calculated and analysed. The first analysis showed two spatial behaviours: stationary and roaming. Roaming females had larger home ranges than stationary ones, and this difference was particularly apparent during winter. Furthermore, different behavioural patterns were found within the roaming roe deer: (i) winter altitudinal migration outside the summer home range; (ii) summer long-distance migration towards birthing and mating areas. The birth period and snow cover during winter are the most important factors influencing female spatial behaviour in this roe deer population. Hand-rearing Roe deer Capreolus capreolus: practice and research potential

Four , Roe deer Capreolus capreolus were hand-reared and released into a 10 ha enclosed natural habitat. This paper describes the hand-rearing procedure, nutrition and development, which we compare with other documented cases. We illustrate the handling techniques that enabled us to maintain a close relationship with the hand-reared Roe deer in their adulthood and study them under semifree-rang...

Distribution and habitat preference of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus L.) in Düzce Province (Turkey)

The roe deer is an important game animal in Turkey. The aim of the current study was to determine the likely distribution area and habitat preferences of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus (L., 1758)) in Duzce Province. The species was observed by wildlife camera traps and direct or indirect observation methods in different habitats in a total of 75 sampling sites during the period between 2013 and ...

Ectoparasites on reintroduced roe deer Capreolus capreolus in Israel.

The ectoparasite fauna of reintroduced roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) was surveyed in a Mediterranean forest in Israel. Ectoparasites were collected from four female hand-reared deer during 2004 and 2005. Seasonality, predilection sites of infestation, and the apparent effect of the parasites are presented. This is the first study of roe deer parasites in the East Mediterranean. The ectoparasit...

Simulation of potential habitat overlap between red deer (Cervus elaphus) and roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) in northeastern China

Background. Understanding species distribution, especially areas of overlapping habitat between sympatric species, is essential for informing conservation through natural habitat protection. New protection strategies should simultaneously consider conservation efforts for multiple species that exist within the same landscape, which requires studies that include habitat overlap analysis. Methods...

Age-Related Patterns in Trace Element Content Vary Between Bone and Teeth of the European Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)

Game animals, such as the roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), have long been used as bioindicators of environmental contamination. Most ecotoxicological research on ungulates has focused on trace element content in soft tissues and antlers. Also, only fragmentary information exists about whether and how trace element concentrations vary with the age of wild-living animals and whether these age-rela...
